Burlington’s Got Community Energy

Burlington is looking for ways to better plan their community’s energy needs via the development of their first Community Energy Plan (CEP).

Burlington’s CEP identifies areas where energy efficiency and conservation can better be improved and will also help the city recognize ways to generate local energy, preferably from renewable sources, and how they can better utilize the potential of smart grid technology.

The Community Energy Plan hopes to improve how the city utilizes its energy through five different areas:

  • Behaviour change – A culture of conservation
  • Energy efficiency
  • Energy generation and security
  • Improved land use and growth
  • Transportation

Each area does have specific objectives that can be found in the CEP draft plan. This is a great starting step for Burlington to transition to a more sustainable community. Of course, with a project of this magnitude, Burlington has reached out to its citizens for feedback and their community voice. The Mayor of Burlington hosted a free Inspire Burlington speaker session (be sure to also check out some of their past events too) with Brent Gilmour from QUEST on the Burlington CEP and feedback from Burlington residents on their CEP can be provided via the Burlington website.
