Caledon Day 2013: Part 2 – Letting Your Green Show

The Region of Peel, the local municipalities and the TRCA and CVC Conservation Authorities have launched the Let Your Green Show campaign that encourages citizens to make and follow through on a sustainability action pledge and in return they get to participate in the “greenback program.” This rewards program lets individuals chose the reward they want for the green action they selected to undertake.

Last summer’s initiative was to “Grow Local/Eat Local,” which provided Peel Region residents resources for finding locally grown food to eat. The program showed the benefits of eating locally and provided resources for participating in the program through other methods.

This year, during Caledon Day and throughout the summer, the Let Your Green Show campaign is focused on home water conservation actions like:Let_Your_Green_Show_POSTER_water_2013_L

  1. Installing a high efficiency showerhead
  2. Growing plants that requires little water
  3. Installing water-efficient toilets
  4. Using a rain barrel
  5. Checking homes for leaks

Let Your Green Show is a great program because it works purely through community engagement and those who participate benefit greatly through the greenback program that rewards individuals for their participation. Let Your Green Show is a great program because it highlights local resources and encourages residents to do simple changes in their everyday behavior to reduce their water use (thereby reducing energy use as well since water pumping uses heaps of energy). Plus they get to select how they would like to be rewarded, and let’s face it we all like rewards. Let Your Green Show also lends itself nicely to competitions between communities, schools, and workplaces, so if you are a citizen living in Peel Region get online, Let Your Green Show and Show and Show some more.

Let Your Green Show participates in many events throughout the Peel Region, you can check them out here.

If you want to check out more other ways to conserve water around your home, here’s some ideas.
